Leather

The background of this illusion is created with a paint glaze (oil or water based) over a solid ground. The cracked, top layer is achieved by use of a two step varnish product, sometimes referred to as crackleure. Cracks do not appear until paint is rubbed over the surface, filling in the fissures with color.
